First Parish Music Presents: Song of Hope and Lux Aeterna
On Sunday, March 17 at 3:00 pm the choirs of First Parish Church, UCC, Brunswick, Maine, nationally acclaimed soloists, and chamber orchestra will present Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna (Eternal Light) and Anne Wilson's Song of Hope in concert at the Orion Performance Center at Mt. Ararat Middle School in Topsham.

The program will begin with Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna. Lauridsen, born in 1943, has been a long-time professor and Chair of the Department of Composition at the University of Southern California and, since 1994, Composer in Residence of the Los Angeles Master Chorale. He is perhaps one of the most frequently performed composers of choral music today.
Song of Hope is a wonderful setting of the Beatitudes combined with texts of Carl Sandburg, Mother Teresa, Dwight Eisenhower, Melba Pattillo Beals, and Marianne Williamson. Cleveland-based composer Anne Wilson juxtaposes the ancient scriptures of blessings with contemporary writings about the working poor,  the desegregation of the schools in Little Rock Arkansas in 1957, the work of Mother Teresa, and the costs of war along with words of inspiration used by Nelson Mandella.
Joining the choirs in this concert are two nationally acclaimed soloists, Barbara Kilduff and John David Adams.

Soprano Barbara Kilduff was featured at the choir's presentation of Haydn's Creation last March. She enjoys a sparkling career in opera, oratorio and song recital on both sides of the Atlantic. Her voice has been praised as "bright and "silvery", soaring effortlessly with "crystalline coloratura." She has been a visiting faculty member at Boston University's School for the Arts and the New England Conservatory of Music, and is currently a faculty member at Phillips Academy in Andover.

John David Adams is an acclaimed concert soloist, equally praised for portrayals in diverse opera and stage roles. His concert repertoire ranges from Baroque masterpieces to premiers of new works, in performances with orchestras and musical organizations from California to Maine.

Ray Cornils is Minister of Music at First Parish Church, UCC where over the past twenty-six years he has built a vibrant music program of five vocal and two handbell choirs. Since 1990 he has been Municipal Organist for the City of Portland. Educated at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music, Cornils has concertized widely throughout the United States, Europe, South America and New Zealand.
